Is the black cat never supposed to cross the road?
Should it remain confined to the other side of the tracks
On the other side of town
Out of Sight
Out of Mind
All because of
Lies
Rumors
A System
Labeling it, Bad Luck
But did you ever pause and think for yourself, just this once
Maybe that cat’s not staring at you to steal your soul
It’s simpler than that
Purer too
It’s simply, hungry
The harsh realities of preconceived notions
Layered brick by brick
Became so strong
An invisible system grew
Pushing them back and blocking them eternally
Yet, don’t feel pity for this Feline
For it rather starve than play into childish narratives
As simple-minded as bringing harm for crossing the road
This majestic companion of Freya
World-class model for the Egyptians
Will keep all its love and wealth to itself
Sharing its authentic self with those who aren’t afraid
To Cross That Road
And hopefully with love, a helping hand, and an apologetic spirit
And perhaps even a little cup of milk
